How great is our God
The Hubble space telescope took these pictures in 1995. The images are of pillars of gas and dust in one of the star forming regions of the Eagle Nebula. The mind-blowing statistic is that they are 6,500 light years away from us, distances that we can’t really comprehend.
But when I saw these images the other day, I was stirred, that to me, it seemed like an image of the Wise Men we read of in our Scriptures. We talk about the adoration of the Magi as they travelled to visit the “New Born King” and to honour Him and bring their special gifts.
Often portrayed in famous paintings and depicted in our Christmas cards, these Wise Men were part of God’s plan.
I thought how spectacular the image is that you see above, and it made me think more of the event as the Magi followed the star. We read Psalms 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands”.
But more than that, the Wise Men came as part of the Christmas story, as God came to earth in human form, God became man.
We read in John’s Gospel 1: 1-14, and especially verse 14 where it says, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth”.
Christmas time tells us that Jesus was fully human, yet fully God, He knows all aspects of our human life. So He knows our joys and our sadnesses, but His love knows no bounds. May God rest with you and your families this Christmas.
