A Good Bath

I have to confess I love a good soak in the bath, just feeling the warm water wash all the cares of the day away, relaxing and enjoying a quiet time on my own. Over this last week whilst soaking in the bath, my thoughts have turned to my baptism more years ago than I like to remember and the baptismal service this Sunday. The song that sums up all the emotions that I feel is:-
River, wash over me
Cleanse me and make me new;
Bathe me refresh me and fill me anew -
River wash over me.
Spirit, watch over me
Lead me to Jesus’ feet;
Cause me to worship and fill me anew –
Spirit, watch over me.
Jesus rule over me
Reign over all my heart;
Teach me to praise you and fill me anew –
Jesus, rule over me.
I love the sense of God washing over me. Taking all the wrong things away and making me new. I pray that on Sunday as we witness the candidates being baptised we will all know that feeling of God’s cleansing power washing over us.
Titus 3 verse 4 – 7 says ‘But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of righteousness things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of re-birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.’
