A day in the garden

Picture for a day in the garde

I have spent most of the day weeding the path and patio in our garden.  Why is it that weeds grow even when we haven’t had much rain??  Some of the weeds came up very easily and others were quite tough to get out.  As I worked my thoughts turned to the ‘weeds’ that we allow to grow in our lives.  Quite unintentionally things crowd in and we lose sight of Jesus who wants good things to grow in our lives so that we can produce the fruits that He desires for us.  Some of those ‘weeds’ can come out easily, but others take a lot of digging out.  My attention then turned to refreshing the planted pots that we have, giving them some plant food, a little new compost and generally encouraging their growth.  Maybe I should do this more often, I don’t know, but in our Christian lives our feeding comes from regularly meeting with our Saviour and feeding on His word and through conversation with Him.  As I looked in our greenhouse at the end of the day I was pleased to see all the seeds that I had planted, growing well and looking healthy, they seemed to be benefitting from the attention that I have been giving them.  This is the same for us, the more we feed on God’s word the healthier our Christian lives will be.  Let us all make sure that we regularly meet with the Lord and learn from Him.

Think on the following verse from 1 Peter 2 verse 2 ‘Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.’
