I was talking with someone the other day and the question came up, “what’s heaven like?” Now we may all have quite different thoughts about this, but in our conversation it came up that heaven would be a place of pure love. I’m sure we can understand love in lots of different ways, like the love for a spouse, the love for a child, the love for a trusted pet. We even talk about love for our favourite meal or sweets. Can we remember the love for a boyfriend or a girlfriend?! So what is pure love?

In the Bible there is the famous passage on love in 1 Corinthians Ch 13 often heard in services from weddings to funerals and, of course, the last verse, verse 13, says, “and now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love”. Words I’m sure you would have heard before.

Why is love the greatest? It may make the world go round, but more importantly it is now and forever.

You see, when in heaven we won’t need faith, because we’re there; we won’t need hope, our hope is realised. But love, however, will be forever and into eternity.

Of course, what made me think about this, is because today is Valentine’s Day, when we traditionally tell someone how much we love them. For the shy they may not be able to tell the person of their love, so cards are sent, sometimes, even anonymously.

God so loved the world that He gave us His Son Jesus. Let’s take the pure love of God and show it in our faces this week. Do we love others enough to tell them about Jesus? Pray for opportunities!
