Painting thoroughly

Picture for Thought for the We

We have spent a large part of the last week painting a newly installed garden log cabin in our daughter and son in law’s garden.  We had clear instructions that it was very important to ensure that we got the paint well into all the joints between each of the tongued and grooved wall timbers.  This is important to ensure that the timbers are sealed and the weather cannot penetrate and damage the structure.  On the first coat this proved challenging, but hopefully on second and third coats this will become easier.
These instructions led me to think about our lives as Christians.  We need to be really soaked in Jesus Christ and his word and as we are we are sealed and with more and more coatings of Jesus’ love and guidance through reading the Bible, the things of the world find it harder to penetrate.
1 John 2 v 24 says ‘As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you.  If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.  And this is what he promised us – eternal life.’
