Can you be seen?

Picture for can you be seen
A little while ago we went to a zoo for a day out and had a great time relaxing and wandering about seeing the various animals, reptiles, fish etc. After seeing some of these creatures we went to where all the birds were, from the smallest to the largest, little sparrows to the great eagles, all different shapes and sizes.

Then we went into where the tropical birds were and were met with humidity, warmth and an amazing collection of sounds, from little tweets to screeching, from noise to beautiful songs. Could it be like church – I leave that to your imagination!

But what was so evident was the wonderful array of colours from these birds; deep reds, blues, oranges and every colour you could think of, some even with shimmering colours a bit like we see on a starling.

Now, these birds, when looking for a mate, especially the male, really come into colourful life. They want to show the best of themselves, with wings spread out to display what they are and have to show. It’s then we see the most brilliant and amazing colours as they shine out to be seen, and for a potential mate to be attracted to them.

This display by the birds set me to think, do I shine out with God’s love? Am I attractive to people, not the handsome and glamourous attractiveness, but an attractiveness of heart and spirit? Every day, when we are out and about, walking, on the bus, at a meeting or event, do we reflect the glory of Jesus to those around us?

If we proclaim the name of Jesus as Saviour and Lord and He lives in our hearts, surely we can’t help but display that in our appearance and so attract others to the Saviour. Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put in under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.”

So go out and show others your true colours!
